AFCON 202:Cameroon defeats Burkina Faso to register an impressive start

The game between Burkina Faso and Cameroon started with defender Steeve Yago became the first player to be booked by referee Mustapha Ghorbal under less than a minute of play.

In the eighth minute, the Indomitable Lions had an opportunity to take the lead when Vincent Aboubakar had a shot from the right side that he missed with his left foot.

Cameroon acted as a more experienced team as Toko Ekambi dribbled past the Burkina Faso goalkeeper but shot the ball too wide.

After a cross from Bertrand Traore following a short corner, the Stallions stunned the home fans in the 24th minute when Sangare blasted a left-footed shot from the left side of the six-yard box to the top left corner beyond Onana.

However the the lions later bounced back into the game as Aboubaker scored from the spot after a rough challenge on Cameroon Frank Anguissa.

After minutes of trading tackles, Cameroon were again awarded another penalty after a rash tackle by Burkina Faso Dayo.  Aboubaker took the penalty responsibility with a shot past Koffi to give Cameroon the lead at half time.

The second half started with refreshing energies from the two teams as Ngamaleu missed the opportunity to stretch Cameroon's lead.

Cameroon thought they had scored their third goal in the 60th minute when Aboubakar's strike hit the back of the net, but it was disallowed owing to offside on the video assistant referee's advice.

With few minutes remaining to stoppage time, captain Aboubaker came close to sealing a win but his shot flew narrowly outside the right post.

The match ended with Cameroon Sealing the first win of the tournament with captain Aboubaker named the man of the match.
