VAR to be used in the upcoming Africa cup of nations– CAF
The upcoming Africa cup of nations organizers have opened up on the use of the video assistant referee var in the tournament.
The African football federation have announced that video assistant referee known as VAR will be used in all 52 matches of the competition as this will allows for fairness and thoroughness in the game.
Although, VAR was used in the quarter final stage of Egypt 2019, however CAF has announced that it will be fully engaged in all matches of the competition.
This move according to CAF would improve the shape of African referees and will help produce world standard referees in Africa.
Sixty-three match officials have been named for the matches, including women referees Salima Mukasanga (Rwanda), Carine Atemzabong (Cameroon), Fatiha Jermoumi (Morocco), and Bouchra Karboubi (Morocco).
The list includes, 24 referees, 31 assistant referees, and eight VARs.
The tournament kicks off on Sunday at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, with Cameroon and Burkina Faso trading tackles.
The Olembe stadium will also host the final match of the 24-team competition on February 6.
